DesignsbyEfua

My fascination with wax prints began when I was very young. I got my first mini sewing machine in Ghana when I was 4 years old. I was not born there, but I had spent my first years there. The magic of African prints has always surrounded me to this day. When I was 16, I bought my first wax print from the production company GTP (Ghana Textile Printing Company) on the market called “Makola” in Accra. Since then, I’ve had endless fun experimenting with the colorful fabrics that often tell an exciting story.

Growing up in a society in which I was perceived as strange or just not belonging, especially as a teenager, lead to fleing into a world of my own.

Wax prints are my “happy place”.

Thanks to my origins and the influences from fashion and pop culture of the 80s and 90s, my style is unmistakable. The idea of DesignsbyEfua has always been to involve the buyers in the process of making art. Everyone should have a say or decide for themselves and complement their individual style with a print that reflects their personality or simply gives them pleasure.

The Vision of DesignsbyEfua

My label aims to spark minds in an artistic, critically but also playful way. While at the same time exploring racism, discrimination and power structures in society. Through conscious design, it creates connections with like-minded labels, artists and communities.
