After graduating from the University of Vienna in the field of development studies, Efua Jarvis Essandoh started out as a project consultant at ÖIF (Österreichischer Integrationsfonds) and later worked as a social worker for Caritas at their Asylum Center.
She is currently the deputy head and employed at Diakonie's refugee service as a social worker and advisor. Parallel to her academic career, she also has a degree in fashion and her own label called DesignsbyEfua.
Most recently her work in this area has grown from an aesthetic playground into a performative and conscious resistance.
Efua Jarvis Essandoh now puts emphasis on, and embodies, wearable activism. With the belief that art has an influence on the way we think, feel, love and move, she is always working on a creative approach and has collaborated on many community, art and cultural projects.
Efua, a traditional Ghanaian name with the meaning „born on friday“, is also a member of the Schwarze Frauen Community, who help empower black women, children and youth in Austria.
